KeceKu: Digitizing Kupedes Micro-Lending

KeceKu (Kupedes Extra Cepat) is a micro-scale commercial loan digitized to replace the conventional, in-branch Kupedes process. I designed a webview application that lets existing BRI debtors apply for loans online, anytime and anywhere (24/7), without visiting a branch. The core challenge: most customers have low digital literacy, so the app had to stay clean and consistently easy to understand at every step.

Background

KECEKU - Kupedes Extra Cepat, is is a micro-scale commercial loan (from >IDR 20 million up to IDR 50 million) with a fully digital credit process that can be completed anytime and anywhere (24/7), without coming to a BRI branch office.

KECEKU is a supplementary loan built on top of BRI's existing product, Kupedes. One key eligibility criterion: the applicant must be an existing debtor.

Problem Statement

KeceKu is a webview application that replaces the conventionally handled Kupedes process, letting customers apply for loans online. The central challenge: most customers have low digital literacy. The design needed to constrain the experience so the app always looks clean and clear, while still giving these users an easy-to-understand journey through a complex loan process.

How Might We?

How might we digitize a conventional micro-lending process for existing debtors — while keeping the experience clean and simple enough for customers with low digital literacy?

Goals

  • Move the conventional Kupedes loan process fully online, available 24/7
  • Serve existing BRI debtors with a familiar, low-friction flow
  • Keep the interface clean and approachable for low-digital-literacy users
  • Deliver a design ready to hand off to development

Design Strategy

My role was UI/UX Designer and UX Researcher. I led the design end-to-end, structuring the information architecture, improving the user flow, and delivering the final UI before handing off to developers to build in code.

  1. Scoping & Setting Requirements
    The project spanned several features: the initial onboarding process, attaching photos of loan requirement documents, creating digital signatures, and the disbursement process.
  2. Customer Journey
    I began with a Customer Journey map to understand the chronological steps a user goes through. Starting here builds empathy and keeps the design focused on real user needs.
  3. Develop (Wireframe → High-Fidelity)
    From the journey, I moved into the design process, starting with wireframes and progressing to high-fidelity UI.


Solution

The result is a webview loan application that guides existing debtors through four key stages:

1. Onboarding

A clean, simple entry point that introduces the digital loan flow to users who may not be comfortable with apps.

2. Data Verification

Users photograph their loan requirement documents, which feed into the digital scoring process.

3. Digital Sign

One of the key features: creating a digital signature by face matching, removing the need for printed, physically signed documents.

4. Disbursement

After successful face and home verification, the loan is disbursed. The disbursement view includes menu features that surface information related to the loan.

Testing

I ran user testing using interviews and usability testing with 5 participants, selected to match the previously defined persona. Sessions were conducted online via Google Meet. A key question we set out to answer:

  • Does this product actually solve users' problems?


Final Outcome

The final UI is a webview mobile application for online loan applications, letting debtors apply and transact anywhere, anytime (24/7). The design was handed off to the development team for further processing.
